What:
Fort Pierce, FL - Sherry Terpening, Chief Operating Officer, of Culpepper and Terpening, Inc. has announced that the company now offers High-Definition Surveying (HDS), a technology that produces highly accurate and immediate measurements, 3D line work and modeling, cross-sectioning, 2D maps and drawings in a fraction of the time required using traditional methods.

Culpepper and Terpening, Inc. is one of the first engineering and surveying firms in Florida to use this technology. Wayne Richmond is the project manager, and is confident it will provide tremendous time savings in the surveying, mapping and design process. The commitment to this equipment and technology investment was made in the first quarter of 2007 after over a year in consideration.

HDS provides engineers with a tool that not only slashes surveying time but can collect data that traditional methods cannot. The basis of HDS is to capture millions of points that create images of point clouds.” Because the image is defined by millions of points, problems with inadequate return from any one spot are virtually eliminated. HDS allows engineers to get results safely in seemingly hazardous situations.

HDS 3D laser scanners are being used at Beijing's Palace Museum, the biggest and most comprehensive ancient palace complex in the world, to obtain 3D geometric data of the 500 year old structure. The challenge of keeping all of the data reserved and available for restoration projects was met with this amazing technology.

Following Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, Chevron Corporation used HDS to assess damaged structures and equipment on their drilling platforms located 130 miles southeast of New Orleans. The technique allowed crews to assess and repair damage to crew quarters, deck structures and production equipment, more than three weeks quicker than traditional methods and helped remove the structural steel repair from the critical path.

Culpepper and Terpening, Inc. will be utilizing this technology to assist in it's surveying and engineering processes. Each division can benefit from the technology; Transportation, Utilities, Site Design, and Land Development. The company hopes to expand the service to other industries such as Golf Courses, Race Tracks, Forensic Sciences, Airports and Landscape.
